Islamabad (Pak PRwire): The Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza has said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with France and both the countries have same perceptions on global and regional issues. She said this while talking to Daniel Jouanneau, Ambassador of France, who called on her in the Parliament House today.
The Madam Speaker said that Pakistan believed that peace and stability was essential for progress and prosperity in the region. She said that terrorism and extremism were the biggest threats to peace and stability and it can be countered by closer cooperation amongst the stakeholders.. The Madam Speaker said that terrorism and extremism can be curbed by addressing the root causes of this menace and underlined the need for enhanced regional and global support to curb this evil.
She said that majority of people in Pakistan were progressive and that is why they have voted for progressive forces in the Parliament. The Speaker said that the Parliament was a sovereign body and it wanted all institutions of the state to work within their sphere. The Speaker apprised the Ambassador about the importance & role of the NA Standing Committee in Pakistan . She also underlined the need for enhanced interaction of the parliamentarians of the two countries for strengthening of bilateral relations.
The Ambassador of France, Daniel Jouanneau said that France wanted democracy and democratic institutions in Pakistan to flourish and strengthen. He said that France also wanted to strengthen cooperation with Pakistan in all sectors of the economy. He said that Pakistan was rendering great sacrifices in the war against terrorism and it was commendable.
