High-Level Media Delegation of Malaysia to forge ties with Pakistani Media

Islamabad: A five member delegation of Media Prima Berhad (MPB), the largest integrated media investment group in Malaysia is paying a four day official visit to Pakistan, from 16th to 20th Feb, 2009, to explore the possibility of joint ventures in the field of media, says a press release received here today from the High Commission for Pakistan at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This visit is in pursuance of meeting between Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, with Media Prima Berhad’s Chairman, Dato Abdul Mutalib Razak, during the Prime Minister’s visit to Malaysia to attend the D-8 Summit in July, last year.

Commercial Counselor and Press Attache for Pakistani High Commission gave two presentations to the members of the delegations on “Doing Business in Pakistan” and Media in Pakistan, at the Head quarter of TV-3, in Kuala Lumpur, today.

His Excellency, the High Commissioner for Pakistan, Lt Gen (Retd) Tahir Mahmud Qazi in his introductory remarks termed the visit of the MPB delegation as a land mark in developing media ties between Pakistan and Malaysia.

He said that Pakistani TV-Dramas and other entertainment programs are rich in content and presentation, and are widely viewed and appreciated by not only Pakistani viewers but also by the viewer of many countries of the world.

Mr. Tahir Qazi said that there is a huge potential for MPB to invest in Pakistan and to undertake joint production of programs and News and current affairs and exchange of programme software between the media of the two countries.

Dato’ Abdul Mutalib Datuk Seri Mohamed Razak, Chairman Media Prima Berhad showed MPB’s keen interest to sign Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with Media of Pakistan for supply and exchange of program software, such as dramas, cooking programs, tourism, fashion and above all sports.

The Chairman also showed his keen interest to explore possibility of MPB’s cooperation in Islamabad Media University, an ongoing project of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan.

In its four days tour, MPB delegation will hold negotiations with Public Sector media houses such as Pakistan Television Corporation(PTVC), Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation(PBC), Associate Press of Pakistan)APP), Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority(PEMRA), and representative of Pakistan Broadcasters Association(PBA).

The delegation will also visit Lahore, the second largest city of Pakistan, wherein, they will visit the Private Media Houses of to explore the possibilities of joint ventures.
