Islamabad (Pak PRwire): The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has expressed satisfaction over amicable resolution of Khabrain group crisis which was emerged following en bloc protest resignation of over 70 workers of the group for non-payment of their salaries.
In a statement issued here on on Sunday, the PFUJ said that the media workers were protesting against non-payment of their legitimate dues for the last six months.
During this period, they asked the management time and again to make payment of their salaries, but the management did not take any notice of their hue and cry and finally left them with no option but to tender en bloc resignation and created a unique example of “workers solidarity” and set a precedent to seek resolution of their issue lawfully.
After submitting resignation, the protesting workers as per plan staged a sit-in before the Kharbain Group office which was also joined by a large number of media persons and members of the Punjab Union of Journalists, which continued for more than 36 hours.
The PFUJ appreciated that the Khabrian Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Zia Shahid, helped ease the situation and that he opted to resolve the issue with mutual consultations and offered dialogue with the agitating workers and the delegation of the PUJ comprising Rana Azeem, General Secretary PUJ, Hafiz Wadood, Senior Vice President PUJ, Asad Sahi, Senior Vice President, PFUJ, Rai Hussain, Coordinator of Crisis Group.
The PFUJ said that after hectic efforts and marathon parleys, the Khabrian Group Chief Executive Officer agreed to make payment of one month salary with immediate effect while outstanding wages two salaries amounts would be distributed among workers before Eid-ul-Azha besides taking back all workers on duty forthwith with a firm assurance that no action would be taken on the “tendered resignations” and that the same would be considered as null and void.
They paid rich tributes to the leadership of the PUJ and agitating workers of the Khabrian group and added that only with solidarity media workers can attain success in their struggle for securing economic rights.
The PFUJ also lauded the prudent response of Kharbain Management which led to solve the crisis in a peace full manner with entire satisfaction of the management and the workers.
“It is not a matter of any individual success, but a good example of resolving the issue with “conciliation” and with a “spirit of give and take”, the other media workers should also follow the same spirit,” the PFUJ asserted.
The PFUJ warned that if the management of the Royal TV Daily Jinnah, Daily Aaj Kal and other channels did not pay outstanding dues within 24 hours, the PFUJ and PUJ would be constrained to hold demonstrations against them and stage sit-ins before their respective offices till the acceptance of demand for payment of lawful dues of media persons.
