PM takes notice of non-compliance of Public Accounts Committee’s instructions

Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday while taking serious notice of the non-compliance of the instructions by Public Accounts Committee, directed the concerned ministries and divisions to give due importance to the matter for improving the country’s good governance.

The Prime Minister termed the good governance as prime objective of the government’s policies and asked federal secretaries and Principal Accounting Officers to accord due importance to the meetings of Public Accounts Committee and ensure their personal attendance whenever called by the committee.

A letter sent to all the ministries by the Prime Minister Secretariat referred to a meeting held by Chairman Public Accounts Committee on April 7 which observed that the main function of the committee was to see that the money granted by the Legislature was being spent by the Executive within the scope of the demand.

It also mentioned Chairman PAC’s statement that despite the instructions issued by the National Assembly Secretariat to the ministries/divisions/departments about compliance of the requirements and mandatory presence of Principal Accounting Officers, these instructions were not being followed and the meetings were being attended by officers other than PAOs.
